Normalizing government dependency, as Cook County’s program clearly seeks to do, is destructive at a time when Illinoisans, especially in Cook County, are already reeling from huge tax increases. Our compassion must be directed to promoting real solutions like more jobs, better schools and more economic opportunity, not blind handouts.
Excuse my paraphrasing of Public Enemy, but to answer a question recently posed by the media — “What’s the point of Illinois Republicans?” — the point is to fight the powers that be. In one sense, that question posed by the Tribune Editorial Board is insulting. In another sense, it is fair.
"The point of the Republican Party is to conserve the amazing assets Illinois has developed — e.g., its infrastructure, industry, universities, arts, et al. — while developing new ones. Both require systemic change in Illinois."

Ted Dabrowski made a campaign visit at Honest Abe’s in Morrison Wednesday.
"Luck alone saved us from loss of life on Saturday. Gunfire during the fight between protesters and ICE sounded yet another frightening warning of the consequence of reckless incitement by Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson and their refusal to enforce immigration law.... Only reliance on the rule of law will eliminate the need for aggressive action by ICE. Only enforcement of the rule of federal immigration law will undo the calamity that resulted from an open border. Pritzker, Johnson and their allies must pledge all efforts to restore the rule of law and reject the mob rule that they’ve effectively embraced. Without that, have no doubt that our luck will run out in a worsening spiral of chaos and bloodshed."
Dabrowski’s campaign tour came through Metropolis on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The afternoon consisted of visiting Metropolis City Hall, door-knocking around the town’s neighborhoods, meeting with local residents and business owners along the Market Street, making remarks on the Massac County Courthouse lawn and ending with an informal meet and greet at Fat Edd’s.
“If I’m governor, I’ve got the bully pulpit,” he said. “Expose it. Persuade, persuade, persuade. People don’t want to pay the highest taxes. He added he would not shy away from challenging members of his own party on fiscal issues. “There’s no leadership in the Republican Party,” he said. “We need principles at the top — lower taxes, more jobs, less government.”
“Tuesday was a frightening day for America,” said Illinois Republican candidate Ted Dabrowski. “A dangerous and radical anti-Semite was elected mayor of our most important city with the explicit or tacit endorsement of leading Democrats, including Gov. Pritzker.”
Gov. J.B. Pritzker continues to coarsen political discourse in this country. As recently reported, he said in a speech last month to the Illinois Federation of Teachers that “Trump and his cronies can F*$% all the way off.” Such language debases the office of the governor of Illinois.
